Syncopy - F.A.Q

Note
These F.A.Q are for Syncopy version 1.0 for iPhone/iPod touch and version 1.0.4 for Mac. Please make sure you are running the latest versions before continuing.
General
  • What is the goal of Syncopy?
  • Syncopy's goal is simple, to unify your clipboard between computers and platforms to better manage your information.
  • Why do I need a Syncode ID to use Syncopy?
  • Syncopy is created to sync your clipboard between the Mac, other Macs and the iPhone/iPod touch. We've found that the best way to-do this is by using a central location ('the cloud') to store the data. A Syncode ID is used to identify who you are, this enables us to only deliver your clipboard. We also intend to use your Syncode ID in future products.
  • What is 'the cloud' and how does this help you sync my clipboard?
  • The cloud is the place in the Internet we use as an in between your Macs, iPhones & iPod touches to transfer your clipboard.
  • What content can Syncopy sync?
  • Syncopy is created to sync information, and hence at the moment will only sync text. The reason we have gone down this path is simple, it's all users truly need to sync between platforms for better productivity and lives up to the goals of the product in simplicity.
  • What exactly does Paste To Server & Copy From Server do?
  • Paste To Server will send your current clipboard to the cloud, save it in history and have that information available for later use. Copy From Server will check what was last pasted item to the cloud from either the iPhone, iPod touch or Mac and then put it into your local clipboard.
Mac
  • I can't see Syncopy in my dock, where has it gone?
  • Syncopy runs in the users menu-bar instead of on the dock to minimise users screen real estate. Hence you will be able to see our little icon with two arrows towards the top right of your screen.
  • What is "Automatic Sync"?
  • Syncopy for Mac provides users with the choice for their clipboard to be automatically synced without any special user interaction by using what we call "Automatic Sync". Basically Syncopy will run in the background and automatically pick up any uses of your clipboard and then save them to the cloud for further use.
  • When I turn on automatic sync why do "Copy From Server" & "Paste To Server" be replaced by "Refresh"?
  • Once you are automatically syncing the options available to us widen and hence we feel we can automatically determine what action you intend to do when you press the refresh button. Hence if you have something to send to the server it will send, or if the server has something to send to you it will download it.
